Wyoming Indian Elementary School is seeking support for a fleet of 18 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum.
Wyoming Indian Elementary School is located in the heart of the Wind River Indian Reservation. Our school population is 316 students Pre Kindergarten through 5th grade. The students, with exception of a few who live in the school housing areas, are all bussed to and from school each day. The children live in rural areas surrounding the school and also in several villages in and around Ethete, Wyoming. Wyoming Indian Elementary School would be honored to provide an opportunity for our Kindergarten students to experience biking in a structured environment with this great program. All Kids Bike would provide an experience and education that most of our students would never receive. The opportunities for our students within the community are very limited. Many of our families may not have the finances to provide their children with a bike or the community resources to learn about biking, bike safety and safety on the roadways.
The All Kids Biking Program would provide experiences to enhance lifelong fitness opportunities. Our school is like many other communities in the US with a high incidence of childhood obesity, poor nutritional choices, limited physical education time and lack of facilities to provide those physical experiences. By including this program in our Kindergarten curriculum the students would gain knowledge of bike riding, practice bike safety, learn about the importance of wearing helmets; all of which would give them a foundation for using bicycles outside of the school setting. -- Brian Janish, Principal
