Washburn Elementary School is seeking support for a fleet of 22 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum.
Washburn Elementary School is working to build a bike program. The mission of the Washburn Bike Program is to give every student the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in biking. The program will aim at helping student experience different types of biking. It will also help them feel more confident commuting to school by bike when possible. The program will help connect students to the variety of bike options in our area. In addition, this program will help students learn the basic maintenance skills necessary to keep their bike ridable. Lastly, this program will educate students on bicycle safety. To lay the foundation the Washburn Bike program is starting with the youngest riders in the school and then proceeding to the upper grade levels. By starting with the youngest riders, we are laying the building blocks that all other skills will rest upon. This will ensure even if a student doesn’t already know how to bike, they will be given the opportunity at a critical age. - Matthew Goodness, PE Teacher
