Temple Christian School is seeking support for a fleet of 30 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum.
Temple Christian School wants to increase our physical education program which is currently lacking in funding and equipment. Many of our students live on farms and/or dirt roads and do not have access to bike, therefore having bikes on campus would allow students to learn a skill while getting exercise. Our goal would be to have about 20 bikes so our kindergarten class and possible other classes could use the bike in a bike curriculum. Many of the students at our school are in need of some joy in their lives and this could help bring great joy as this school has been through a lot. During Hurricane Irma in 2017, Temple Christian School was greatly affected. The students at Temple Christians School saw devastation, the school and church buildings were wiped away by the hurricane. For months, students were housed in the cafeteria, the only structure left standing, in order to receive and education. As Temple Christian School was rebuilding and regaining its footing, we were struck by another tragedy, the principal, Dawn Baker, and her husband Chet, also a teacher, and their young son were killed in a car accident. Temple Christian School has been rocked by tragedies, both emotionally and financially, but we are working to rebuild and provide a joyful education for all our students. - Brittany Lohmeier, Principal
