Salisbury Elementary School is seeking support for a fleet of 20 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum. Join us in supporting our children achieving one life’s most wonderful developmental milestones. Inarguably, learning to ride a bike has such a tremendous impact on a child’s physical well being, but also has been proven to positively affect their cognitive and socioemotional well being. For varied reasons, we see many of our children up to the sixth grade unable to ride a bike. SES PTA would love to support and bring a program to our PE Educator that would get our children out there and riding! We have wonderful indoor and outdoor space to do just this.
SES PTA recognizes that it’s not so much that it takes a village to raise a child, rather than the tremendous strength, growth, and benefits that come from engaging the “village.” SES PTA is the oldest operating PTA in the world. We are also 1 in 145 PTAs to earn national recognition as a “School of Excellence.” Founded in 1910, we have 110 years of devotion to the educational success of SES Students and the promotion of family and community engagement. Our seaside community of approximately 8,000 residents presents great diversity socio-economically. Our children’s home lives vary tremendously. Some live with full bellies and safe environments while others may spend their nights “couch surfing” (25% of our students are considered homeless). Some parents struggle to find affordable before or after school care, or maybe can’t get to school or work because their car is in disrepair. We have a large population of children that live with grandparents or other family members. Some of our children stare in the face of addiction daily. Many of our families are working sun up to sun down to provide. Such factors often eliminate the idea of day tripping to a museum or an evening at the theater. I often say these numbers aren't what define our school-because we aren't a sad state of affairs. Our families are hardworking, wonderful, and the kids are even better, the staff is A...MAZ..ING. Rather these numbers help to provide some insight on the challenges that our community faces. SES PTA works towards ensuring inclusion of all experiences for ALL our children and their families. It is something that our administrators, our PTA, and educators strive for each and every. We do so in whichever way we can. That may mean clipping 10 cent box tops at our kitchen tables, putting together baskets to raffle, offering children the opportunity to watch their principal kiss a pig in exchange for reading, or hosting an event such as this. Basically, if we can raise funds to offer our children amazing experiences- we do it. With your support, SES PTA can significantly enrich and create an environment in which ALL our children have the same opportunities physically, learning, cultural awareness, citizenship, growth, and making their community and their world a better place. --Jennifer Roketenetz, SES PTA President
