There is no doubt that the world tends to move quickly. Each day, month, year passes faster than the one before. One minute you’re getting married and buying discount ravioli in a can so you have enough money for rent, and the next thing you know, both you and your spouse both have your dream jobs, and your kids are in high school. How did we get here and how on earth do we deserve such a wonderful life? We ask ourselves this every day. With time passing so quickly it’s really hard not to get stuck in the whirlwind of day to day. Work. Chores. Groceries. Laundry. Watch Bachelorette. Repeat. (Don’t judge.)
Ryan and I recently got the opportunity to be part of a charity team for the Los Angeles Marathon. We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to break up the monotony, get off our lazy butts, and work hard for something that was bigger than just us. We had to commit to running and raise funds for a cause we felt strongly about. Well as COVID tends to do… it ruined our plans. Even with a month of training under our belts we got the news about the big race being delayed. I decided to reach out to All Kids Bike and ask if we could run and raise the funds anyway. Our personal commitment to health and giving back felt too important to postpone.
We opted to run a race that is closer to home. The Crazy Horse Marathon/ Half Marathon is in Hill City, SD on October 3rd, 2021. We will be donating the funds we would have spent on plane tickets to get to LA to All Kids Bike, and we’re asking you, our friends and family, to please consider supporting our race by donating to All Kids Bike as well.
All Kids Bike is a nonprofit organization on a mission to each every child in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class. Schools get everything they need to teach kids how to ride, including bikes, helmets and curriculum. Right now in the US 70% of kids won’t even ride a bike one time in a single year. And how the stats are trending right now, most kids will never even learn how to ride. All Kids Bike is changing that. Bikes are the key to freedom and adventure!
We’ve set our goal at $5,000 which is the cost to get a program into one school. That program will teach every kindergarten student how to ride for the next 5+ years. With an average enrollment of 100 students per year, over 5 years, that means this will teach over 500 kids this lifechanging skill. (You got the goosebumps reading that, didn’t you?) Thank you for consideration to help us change some lives.
Now we’re off to go pound some pavement to get help get more butts on bikes!
