Rossview Elementary School
Clarksville, TN
Rossview Elementary School is seeking support for a fleet of 25 bikes, helmets, kickstands, and curriculum.
"I am writing this letter on behalf of the students and faculty of Rossview Elementary. As a school, we feel that this program would be very beneficial for our sweet Kindergarten friends. When they arrive in August, they are terrified, and some have very little confidence considering they have never stepped foot in a classroom or been around a group of peers the same age as them. By incorporating this program, it would allow for us to teach them the basics of bike safety and how to ride as well as boost their overall confidence. Providing these students with the opportunity to ride bikes can help with their attentiveness and concentration in the classroom.
Bicycling is a great exercise for your body and mind. This great form of exercise allows for kids to strengthen their heart, lungs, and lower body muscles and bones. Not only is bicycling fun for all ages but it is also a great way to relieve built-up tension that can arise during the school day.

As a physical educator, it is my job to find ways to keep the students active both inside and outside of school. It is important for us to meet the state's mandated physical activity law for children of all ages. By including bicycling into our curriculum would allow for us to provide a fun activity other than sports-related lessons. This helps to reach those students who do not have an interest in playing sports but also want to find ways to live an active and healthy lifestyle. Teaching students the basics of bike safety and how to ride will hopefully encourage them to want to ride outside of school hours. Although, some students in our school do not have the privilege of owning a bike or having anywhere to ride one. This program would be a great way to create well-rounded students by introducing them to something that they may not have access to at home.
