PS 20: Anna Silver School in the Lower East Side is seeking support for a fleet of 25 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum.
The purpose of requesting All Kids Bike is to expose our students here at PS20 to bike riding and give them an opportunity to learn while in Kindergarten. PS 20 is located on the Lower East Side in Manhattan. We are a Title 1 School, which means that more than 50% of our families are at or below the poverty level. Many of our students don’t have access to bikes. Many students don’t have backyards or the space available to house bikes. Some families have parents that work late and can’t afford to spend the time after-school teaching basic bike riding skills to their child. The Learn-To-Ride program would help alleviate these concerns and give access to bikes for over 75 of our kindergarten students.
If we are accepted into the All Kids Bike program every kindergarten student will have access to a bike at school, learn how to ride a bike and have the space available to ride in our school-yard. It’s an experience that we can offer our students with the help of your program. An added bonus is cycling is a lifetime sport. It’s something you can do your whole life no matter how old or young you are. Lastly it’s a great form of exercise!
At PS 20 Health and Wellness are extremely important parts of our school’s mission and vision. Wellness is actually one of the four pillars in our school vision. We are always teaching our students the importance of exercising and trying new things. All Kids Bike fits in well with our school vision and will be an amazing addition to our PE Kindergarten community
