PS 120 QUEENS
Queens, NY
PS 120Q is seeking support for a fleet of 30 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum.

P.S. 120 Queens is excited to be applying for the All Kids Bike Learn to Ride program. We look forward to partnering with your foundation to provide our students with this unique opportunity. We are a not for profit elementary school serving low income families in the Flushing, New York area. Our student population consists of over 70% of the students with a low economic need index and the entire student body receiving free school lunch. There are also over 40% of our students who are English Language Learners and over 10% who are students with special needs. The vision statement of our school places an emphasis on the development of not only academics but also critical thinking, social emotional learning, creative thinking and kinesthetic learning. Currently students are meeting the new city-wide standards for physical education through our comprehensive physical education curriculum and Move to Improve program which includes Pre-K through 5th grade. Students who are physically active not only notice improved physical and health attributes but also studies have found that they also have an improvement in their academic performance and socialization with their peers. The addition of the All Kids Bike Learn to Ride program will fit perfectly with the vision statement of the school and would be serving over 300 Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Our school is also fortunate to have two physical education spaces which would be excellent locations for the Learn to Ride program. There is a traditional gymnasium setting and there is also an outdoor space which has a turf field and a track around the perimeter. These spaces will allow us to have dedicated locations for students to immerse themselves in the program. This program may be the only opportunity for many of our students to learn how to ride a bicycle and gain the lifelong appreciation for biking. We appreciate the Strider Education Foundation for reviewing our application for this wonderful program! - Serena Forzaglia, Assistant Superintendent
