North Fork Montessori @ Crawford
Crawford, CO
North Fork Montessori @ Crawford is seeking support for a fleet of 24 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20 Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.

"North Fork Montessori @ Crawford is a public elementary school in rural Delta County, on the western slope of Colorado. Funding for schools in our low-income county, especially for non-academic pursuits, is very constrained, and even more so now during the pandemic. Our school historically enrolls 150 elementary students from Crawford and surrounding small communities.

Our kids love to bike! The Nature Connection, a state-funded recreation program to connect kids with the outdoors, brings bikes and striders to our school for bike clinics at least once a year. But they take their bikes away with them, so kids can’t build on what they learn. Our preschoolers and kindergarteners have, in addition to five decent tricycles, only one nice strider and one very heavy and klunky one. These are used almost daily at recess.

Our school’s main parking lot is old, with pits and loose material that makes biking dangerous, especially for our youngest kids. Fortunately, last year our school was the beneficiary of a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) grant that created a sledding hill on the big hill behind our school. Included in the project above the school is a new parking lot and a gently sloped 300-foot paved pathway from the playground up to the lot, perfect for even little ones to enjoy for biking. The kids would love to have more striders to meet the challenge of using the pathway to and from that small parking lot as they learn to bike!

Our Primary class’s full enrollment is 15 kindergartners and 26 preschoolers. Having at least 24 more striders/bikes, an instructor’s bike and all the conversion kits and helmets would make a great difference for these kids! Each level could have instruction during PE and take outings with their class.

Thank you so much for this opportunity to bring biking fun and instruction to our school."
