Mt. Healthy City Schools South Elementary is seeking support for a fleet of 22 bikes, helmets, kickstands and curriculum.
Mt. Healthy South Elementary is located in Springfield Township, Ohio (close to Cincinnati). The entire district serves approximately 3,000 children. Mt. Healthy City Schools is a Title I school, meaning 70% or more of the student population is considered at or below poverty level. 100% of our student population receives free lunch. Our district employs MTSS (multi-tiered system of supports) in order to educate our students. This means that we instruct our students on life skills – such as the importance of physical activity for well- being and balance- as well as traditional educational subjects. Our goal is to provide the best, most rounded educational experience available in spite of the less than ideal economic circumstances. Many of the students at South Elementary enter school not knowing their letters or numbers, much less knowing how to or in some cases not even having access to a bicycle. The All Kids Bike programs would allow me to give my students the skill of riding along with all its benefits. If this request is granted, it is a guarantee that these students will be given an opportunity to experience bike riding which may not be possible otherwise. - Katharine Millbower, PE Teacher
All Kids Bike® is a national movement led by the Strider® Education Foundation to place Kindergarten PE Learn-To-Ride Programs into public schools for free, using donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations. All Kids Bike is on a mission to teach every child in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
