Marengo Valley Home and School Association is seeking support for a fleet of 24 bikes, helmets, kickstands, and curriculum.
Marengo Valley School is a diminutive school nestled in the country. We are part of a bigger school district but the Home and School Association is always searching for grants that will enable our kids to perform better and improve!! [All Kids Bike] would be the icing on the cake, as we recently paved a track behind our school! Living in a rural area, black top is rather scarce! This opportunity would create a fabulous opportunity for the kindergartners (and 4k) to learn to ride a bike! The black top track needs more than just foot traffic during physical education class, and bikes would be an absolute perfect addition!
We are a low income school, as 75% of the students receive free and reduced lunches. There are 184 students enrolled, and it’s challenging to receive proper funding for diverse, innovative learning! The earlier they learn to develop balance and strength with their best friend, the bike, the better! Bike riding is a life-long skill so why not learn it as soon as possible! We are continually trying to find as many diverse activities as possible for the kids to have at school, especially anything outdoors. Increased activity will improve the overall health of the kids, and enables them to learn better! Our school would push the limits of these bikes and not one would rust away! -- Angela Lunn, Home and School Association President
