Hope Elementary School
Santa Barbara, CA
Hope Elementary School is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 24 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20 Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.

Principal, Dr. Liz Barnitz, is excited to see kids rolling in the classroom soon. Liz says: "Hope School is the right fit for your mission of teaching all kids to ride bikes in Kindergarten. We are in the process of updating our Kindergarten yard, thanks to the perseverance of teachers and families, who have either donated time or money into making a playground that promotes inclusion, interaction and choice. Last year, Parent and Business Owner Carlos Davalos laid the concrete for our new bike path, allowing students to take turns riding one of four tricycles around the track. It is a highly popular play area, and it is wonderful to watch.

There are so many skills students learn riding on the path. Along with large motor skill
development, students learn how to take turns and to ride safely. What we have found is that
these are some of the most challenging ones to teach, especially with three other play areas to
supervise simultaneously, and only four tricycles available. With the support of your program, we
will increase our bike count, and give the time and focus needed to create bike literate students.

There are some students who are fearless and others who struggle with the physical speed and autonomy a bike provides. With a partnership between All Kids Bike and Hope School, we could educate students on how to bike safely and confidently. As the designated school for our Special Day Class for students with moderate to severe disabilities, our partnership will offer the extra care needed for Kinder students who might otherwise have limited access to building biking skills. Being able to bring the love of biking to all Kinder students would improve their sense of independence and self efficacy, attitudes that are essential for all students, and crucial for students in our Special Day Class."

All Kids Bike┬« is a national movement led by the Strider┬« Education Foundation, Inc. to place Kindergarten PE Learn-To-Ride Programs into public schools for free, using donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations. All Kids Bike is on a mission to teach every child in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
