CONEJO ELEMENTARY (PARENT FACULTY ASSOCIATION) THOUSAND OAKS, CA
Conejo Elementary (Parent Faculty Association) is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 24 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20 Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.
TOSA, Natalie Smith, is excited to see kids rolling in the classroom soon. Nataliesays:" Conejo Elementary is a Leader In Me: Lighthouse School located in Thousand Oaks, California. Our students are taught leadership principles from Transitional Kindergarten to 5th grade so that they may become agents of positive change in their families, schools, and communities. When our students are taught how to ride bikes early on, they develop self-efficacy, self-reliance and resiliency skills they will carry through many challenges in life, as well as have opportunities to have shared experience with our bike-riding community.
As Conejo Elementary is Title 1 school, many of our students have not had the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike at home due to lack of access to age-appropriate bikes and people who can teach them. Bike-riding is an invaluable life skill for our students in particular because it increases access to community resources for families without cars, impacts gross motor skills, and teaches a fun, healthy way for families to enjoy the beautiful Southern California weather together.
Lastly, when our students are biking comfortably, they will have the opportunity to enjoy the many protected bike lanes on the streets of our community, as well as experience the miles of kid-friendly bike trails around the Conejo Valley year-round."
All Kids Bike® is a national movement led by the Strider® Education Foundation, Inc. to place Kindergarten PE Learn-To-Ride Programs into public schools for free, using donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations. All Kids Bike is on a mission to teach every child in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
