Caroline Elementary School is seeking support for a fleet of 24 bikes, helmets, kickstands, and curriculum.
"Caroline Elementary School is situated perfectly to expand and explore outdoor education pursuits - like biking. Our staff embraces place-based education, where students take full advantage of the learning opportunities that our campus provides. Caroline Elementary School is situated within three miles of an outstanding mountain biking single-track park located in the Shindagin State Forest. However, we are also flanked by heavily traveled rural roads with narrow shoulders and no sidewalks. Our campus offers a perfect learning environment for new bike riders and families to enjoy biking and recreation on site. Building a facility and training students to ride bikes offers a critical area of physical development and exercise for students in our immediate school community. It also provides a lifetime skill for exercise recreation and green transportation. Your greatly appreciated contribution to our bicycle program would be a foundational component of developing the skills and interest in riding for young students, helping us to maximize the number of students who progress into lifelong riders. This project includes two phases. Our Phase I asphalt course will be used for beginner riders. Your contribution will be directly applied to this phase allowing the purchase of a fleet of Strider bikes. Strider is also matching our contributions for this part of the project! Phase II will be the development of a larger single track dirt course around the perimeter of our campus and incorporating our existing Wilderness Campus. Our bike project will be complemented and supported by secure bike storage and maintenance shed already installed adjacent to the bike courses. The need and opportunity for the development of a biking program in our rural community is immense. Thank you for your continued support and contribution." - Sam Trechter, Physical Education Teacher Caroline Elementary
