Buffalo Ridge Elementary School is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 30 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20 Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.
PE Teacher, Kelli Weinreich is excited to get kids rolling in her classroom soon. Kelli says, "Buffalo Ridge Elementary is a close-knit school that services approximately 400 children. It is a Pre-K through 5th-grade school nestled in Castle Pines, Colorado. As a school, we work to
ensure that our students are prepared physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally for this
ever-changing world. Most of our students come from the local neighborhood and walk to school
each day. A bike program that promotes bike safety and skill development would be an excellent
benefit for our students. Not only would it provide them with some safety as they walk or maybe
in the future ride to school, but it would also open up a world of new experiences for them.
Colorado is home to numerous trails and open spaces. These areas would be great places for
students to go with their families once they have learned biking skills and safety. Now, not only
are we providing them with a new skill, but we are also showing and promoting a healthy
lifestyle. Along with learning physical skills, biking teaches so much more. It allows students to grow independently with internal motivation, determination, character, and personal responsibility. These characteristics enable students to grow and flourish in our SEL-focused school. They teach students how to treat new manipulatives and tools, ensure that they are safe while moving outside, and set a goal and work to achieve it.
To receive these bikes would mean the world to our school. Our students would have an
opportunity they have never had before. We would be able to enrich their lives with skills that
they would use forever. As the PE teacher, a donation like this would provide me with the
opportunity to elevate our PE program. It would allow students to quickly see the real-world
connections we make with Physical Education every day. Not only would I be able to teach it,
but our local school security officer, who bikes around our school each day to ensure our safety,
would be able to ride along with us and share some extra safety tips. In the grand scheme of
things, we would love to add in bike-to-school days or family ride days, where parents and
children are active and healthy spending time outside together."
