A.J. Schmidt Elementary School is seeking support for a complete Kindergarten PE Program, including a fleet of 24 Strider AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, pedal conversion kits, one Strider 20 Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.
PE Teacher, Sean Kunkel, is excited to get his kids rolling in the classroom soon. Sean says, " A.J. Schmidt is identified as one of the poorest schools in Western New York. We don’t let that stop us, though. We try to give our students the best and most fun school experience. As it says in our high school, “The Best School in Western New York” and we say that with pride.
As Physical Educators, we want to give our students as much exposure to as many sports and activities we can, to help the students become better educated when it comes to physical activity and fitness. This is important to us because we have been labeled as having greater than forty four percent of our students considered overweight or obese in Erie County. We feel that a lot of the students here cannot ride a bike, or afford one to practice on. We would like to bring All Kids Bike to A.J. so that these students will be able to learn how to ride, balance, and have fun on a bicycle. We believe that this will help our students to have something to look forward to in their PE classes, as well as encourage them to be able to do something like this at home and with their families. If we can teach the students at a young age the importance of fitness we hope to have this travel with them throughout their lives to help make physically educated choices."
All Kids Bike® is a national movement led by the Strider® Education Foundation, Inc. to place Kindergarten PE Learn-To-Ride Programs into public schools for free, using donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations. All Kids Bike is on a mission to teach every child in America how to ride a bike in kindergarten PE class.
