Montgomery Elementary School is seeking support for a fleet of 24 Strider 14x AKB-Specific Bikes, helmets, kickstands, one Strider 20 Bike for teacher instruction, and curriculum.
"As a former BMX racer and teammate of Eddy King, I thoroughly enjoy the benefits of riding a bicycle and encourage my students to do so as well. As a PE teacher, I try to incorporate many skills in my classes that the students can benefit from throughout their lifetime. Bicycling is one such skill that was almost impossible to include in PE classes until now. Learning to ride a bicycle is one of the most fundamental skills a child can learn. With parents’ hectic schedules, oftentimes that gets overlooked with some of the families in my area. By including this program at my school I hope to engage more family support and knowledge as to the importance of bike riding including:
1. Physical Fitness benefits
2. Social Benefits with friends and family
3. Reinforcement of balance
4. Traffic decision making
5. Safety and awareness
The PE teachers in our district also administer a kids triathlon open to all K-6 students in our district. We have grown to be the second-largest kids' triathlon in the entire country. By including bicycle basics to our Kindergarteners, we hope to attract more of our students to participate in our program (IRONKnights Triathlon - www.npenn.org/ironknights ).
I feel as though a program like this will be well received with the students, staff, and families at my school. I plan to include resources for families like how to purchase a bike, helmet safety, and basic maintenance.
I am looking forward to incorporating AllKidsBike into Montgomery Elementary." -- Jason Theodore, PE Teacher
